Tina Fey Won’t Host the Next Oscars

Andrew Meyer

My evaluation of Seth MacFarlane’s hosting of the Oscars was… poor is probably the least controversial thing I have ever written. So of course the rush to find a credible replacement for next year’s awards would be swift, with William Shatner as Captain Kirk getting ahead of everyone and saying they should have gotten Tina and Amy, referring to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, since the duo’s hosting of the Golden Globes got rave reviews. While Shatner’s jab was mostly done to be humorous while also giving credit to Fey and Poehler, with the reception to MacFarlane being as bad as it is, Fey being asked about hosting the Oscars was an inevitability. However based on an interview with the Huffington Post, Fey has no interest in doing so.

When asked by Mike Ryan if there was a possibility if she could, even with the Oscars being on ABC and Fey’s affiliation with NBC, and if she would want to host with Poehler, Fey responded with “No, you can. But I just feel like that gig is so hard. Especially for, like, a woman — the amount of months that would be spent trying on dresses alone … no way.” When Ryan later remarked that he would have hoped to hear that there was at least a one in a million chance, Fey stood her ground and simply said “I wish I could tell you there was.”

Before everyone plays armchair psychologist with those quotes, let’s just all re-watch a 30 second clip of the Golden Globes and then watch a 30 second clip of the Oscars. Oh man the Golden Globes were fun. But at the same time I can understand if Fey doesn’t want to become “award show host X”, like Billy Crystal. So one candidate for hosting down, and the end of Oscars time begins. (Oh who am I kidding, some website is already making a two thousand word post about a 2014 preview.)
