FX Renews Archer for 5th Season

Archer, one of the better known adult animated comedy shows and somewhat of a cult hit for the FX network, has been renewed for a 5th season. FX ordered 13 more episodesm following a 44% increase in the 18-34 demographic, and 18% in the 18-49 demographic. Archer currently rides behind only The Walking Dead with the #2 slot in the Men’s 18-34 demographic, and has been in the #1 spot Thursdays at 10 PM for the past month.

The show, created by Adam Reed and currently in its 4th season, will also be competing for a prized trophy at this year’s Emmy’s ceremony. With the show’s renewal, FX also chose to annouce that they will be submitting Season 4 of Archer for the Emmy’s “Best Comedy Series” category. Not many animated comedies compete in the Best Comedy Series category, with the recent and notable exception of Fox’s Family Guy, but FX hopes that the increasing popularity of the show has given Archer a good chance of getting nominated.

There are 6 episodes still left on the show’s 4th season. This year’s season kicked off on January 17th, with a Bob’s Burgers crossover episode, referencing the fact that voice actor H. Jon Benjamin voices both shows’ lead roles (and was nominated for an Emmy for his voice-work on Archer‘s first season). Archer‘s season finale will be a two parter, with the final episode airing on April 11th. The next episode of Archer, “Coyote Lovely,” airs Thursday, March 7th at 10pm
