Trailer Tuesday: March 5th
Trailer Tuesday – The column where Cinedork’s staff of writers guide you through the ABCs of new trailers, taking a look at what’s awesome, what’s bizarre, and what’s just cringe-worthy in upcoming movies. This week, the crew takes a look at the latest offering from Pixar, what happens when Steve Carrell and Jim Carrey pretend to be magicians, and, yet another Fast & Furious sequel.
DISCLAIMER: Trailer Tuesday writers have NOT seen the films, and are simply basing their opinions off of the movie trailers, casting rumors and internet chatter — these are NOT substitutes for our actual film reviews.
Apparently America still wants Vin Disel to drive fast cars. Fast Six isn’t the sequel we need, because The Fast and Furious didn’t require a sequel. Fast Six is the sequel we deserve for pumping out so many of these movies. The cast is loaded from familiar faces from the previous five movies, like Paul Walker, Tyrese Gibson, Chris Bridges, Sung Kang, Dwayne Johnson, and Jordana Brewster.
Fast Six is guaranteed to entertain. The “First Look” trailer is loaded with above and beyond feats, one including them crashing a plane, with cars. Watch the trailer to see that for yourself. With a brand new villain and the old cast, it seems complete, but then we see Michelle Rodriguez. She was killed in the fourth installment in Fast and Furious, but revealed to be alive at the end of Fast Five if you stayed after the credits finished rolling.
People say you can tell when a franchise has jumped the shark when you kill a main character. What does it mean to bring someone back from the dead? Kind of Bizarre.
What do Steve Carell, Jim Carrey, Olivia Wilde, Steve Buscemi, Gillian Jacobs, and Alan Arkin have in common? Magic! The upcoming movie The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, features Steves Carell and Buscemi as a team of old school magicians who have to compete with edgy street magician Steve Gray (Jim Carey). Chances are if you like comedy or magic (no one dislikes magic) this movie will appeal to you. The cast has more than enough nerd appeal and David Copperfield even makes a cameo to charm to magic purists. So far this movie looks like pretty inventive comedy where every character is actually Gob Bluth. Completely Awesome.
Looking for a few laughs and giggles with a pair of familiar monsters? This June, Mike and Sully are back years after our introduction into their world intent on children screams and later, laughter, to show us that even monsters need an education to scare. Filled with color, humor and action, our two favorite top dogs of scare industry, Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are in their first year of university and as roommates, seek to outdo the other in their scare studies, a competition that is echoed in the first movie we meet the two scare experts. As a fan of Pixar I am all for the return of these two and their wily and wild ways! Overall this trailer was pretty, kind of awesome. Check out the MonstersUniversity.com/edu website!!
